Once you complete your registration, the combination to the lock on the door will be emailed to you. Please abide by the program rules and I suggest you print out a copy for your reference. Rule Review **Please Read**

Review points – find (15) (10 points if dog is held), retrieve (15) & bagged bird (10). If you miss the bird (not shot) but your dog makes the retrieve, you get 10 points.
All finds (points/flushes) must be made in bounds. The dog may go out of bounds to make the retrieve. All retrieves must be to within one large step of the handler. If the dog fails to retrieve, handler may go pick up the bird. 10 points for the bagged bird is awarded.
A brace shall consist of one handler/shooter and one dog or two people (handler and separate shooter) and one dog.
In open, women's, novice and youth divisions (15 minute brace), there must be a perfect score on the three birds to get the bonus points. Perfect Score: Find/Flush (15 Points), Retrieve (15 Points) (bird must be shot), Bagged Bird (10 Points). Then dog gets Two (2) points for each shell left over from Five (5) allowed per run. One (1) point is awarded for each minute left on clock rounded up to next minute. Example: 9 minutes and 10 seconds would be rounded to 10 minutes leaving 5 bonus points.
The only bonus in doubles is for backing in pointing division and stop on flush in flushing division (5 pts). Only one back and one stop on flush will be scored per dog per brace. Backing dog must be held until pointing dog completes the retrieve or is released by the judge. Shooter/handler of pointing dog must wait to flush bird until backing dog is held by handler or judge. He has 2 minutes to complete flush once backing dog is held. After 2 minutes, pointing dog must be relocated. Backing dog must be released after 1 minute on any relocation. If no bird is produced it is open to both dogs.
In Open Pointing (singles) divisions, if bird is flushed by the dog it is counted as one of your 3 contacts and no score is recorded. However, if the same bird lands within the field boundary, it does not count as a contact and may be worked for a full score. A flush occurs when the bird leaves its resting place, either by flight or running on ground.
In Open Pointing (singles) divisions, if a bird is wild flushed by either the judge, shooter/handler or flushes as the dog runs within proximity, it is not counted as a contact. The dog must actually cause the bird to flush to be counted as a contact. A dog encounter (chase) of a running bird is not considered a contact. However, if the dog stops and points it can be worked for a full score. Watch where you are walking or driving ATV if judging.
In Doubles Pointing, if a bird is wild flushed by either the judge, shooter/handler or flushes as the dog runs within close proximity, it is marked for 3 minutes. Both handlers will be notified by the judge of the marked bird and location in the field. If the dog points the marked bird before the 3 minutes has expired, the bird must be shot and taken out of the brace for no score. If a dog points a marked bird in less than the 3 minutes but the handler is unable to produce the bird. The area is marked as a "two bird area" meaning two birds must be produced from the area but only one will be scored.
A dog cannot be led off the marked bird by either collar or command. If the dog stops on the flush, either by command or on its own, the bird remains a marked bird and can be worked after 3 minutes has elapsed.
Judges: Make sure you record the exact total time and exact first find in the designated areas on the scorecard. These are the tie breakers.
Safeties: Judge or handler may call safety for any unsafe situation. Judge to make final decision as to valid safety. Judge to mark "S" on scorecard by Retrieve and Bagged Bird score. Total points to be awarded on bird where safety is called. Safety may be called after a shot is fired. However, no safety can be called if there is no shell in the gun. Example: double gun shoots twice at same bird and misses. Then handler/shooter calls safety on unsafe shot. Not allowed. Safeties receive full score on that bird. If safety is called on last bird, time stops when the dog is collared.
No shot size larger than # 7. No high brass loads.
No running in the fields. Defined as having one foot on the ground at all times.
No shooting birds on the ground (pointers and flushers) without permission of the judge. Pointers – If the bird will not fly, a safety shall be called after a reasonable attempt has been made to flush. Flushers – Bird may be scooped. Handlers may pick up the bird and throw it if it can be caught.
Bitches in season will be run in the last brace of their respective division. In doubles, they will be paired with another female. They must remain crated at all times until their brace time.
Blaze orange cap or vest must be worn by handlers, judges, bird planters, photographers or anyone in the field.
Guns will be on safe or actions open until the shot is presented. Guns may be loaded at the starting gate.
At the end of your brace, please leash your dog immediately and leave the field at the nearest boundary so that we can continue with the next brace.
Backing: (Doubles Pointing) If you have a placement (1st, 2nd or 3rd ) in the semi-finals or finals of the club championship, you may be asked to demonstrate that your dog can back.
Judges: There is a copy of all the rules, singles and doubles, on all the clip boards. Also, all rules will be posted on the main scoreboard.
Judges (When radios are available): In singles events, notify the scoring desk when the second to last bird is taken. In doubles events, notify scoring desk when five (5) minutes remains in the brace. This will help speed up trials by having bird planter ready to plant.
Judges: Please turn in scorecards to desk immediately after each run or brace.
Judges: If a situation occurs of which you are unsure, make note on your scorecard and discuss with the field marshal. If a protest is filed by the handler, the judge will bring it to the field marshal for clarification. The specific judge and field marshal will discuss the issue in private and a final decision will be rendered. The handler will be informed of the decision. Verbal abuses of judges or volunteers will not be tolerated.

NOTE: All trial entrants and judges are responsible to read and understand the trial rules.

General Club Rules

You may train your dog year around, seven (7) days per week. No reservation is required.
No driving of any vehicles in the fields other than during field events (ATVs) and field maintenance.
Guests are always welcome. However, club members are responsible for their guests while utilizing club property. Sponsored guests are limited to one (1) visit then are required to join to further use club grounds. Members may have “training helpers” to assist them while on club grounds. Training helpers must be accompanied by a club member, may not bring their own bird dogs and must sign a liability waiver in advance. See #4 below.
All guests must sign a liability waiver in advance of their visit. Member is responsible to have guest complete form. Executed form should be turned in to C. J. Kausel. Parent or guardian must complete youth liability waiver.
Members are encouraged to train their dogs with other club members. If you need professional help, for pointing breeds, contact C. J. at huntsmartpro@gmail.com. For flushing and retrieving breeds, contact Shawn McElroy at ltcmcelroy@hotmail.com. If you are looking for professional training requiring the boarding of your dog, contact CJ or Shawn for references.
No member, other than C. J. Kausel & Shawn McElroy, or their guest shall conduct dog training for payment on club grounds.
No alcoholic beverages will be consumed during training or field events.
Field will not be cleaned (hunted) after a trial until all braces or runs have been completed.
All trial entrants are responsible to know the rules for each type of field event. They are posted on the web site and included in your member packet. Please keep them for your ready reference. Also, they will be on the main scoreboard at all field events.
Conducting a field trial requires many tasks; ie set up, bagging birds, bird planting, judging, running the scorer's table, and clean up to name a few. Members are asked to volunteer to help with these tasks. If we all pitch in the trial runs smoothly and on-time.
Members who chair a trial or provide ATVs receive discounted trial entry fees.

"Three Chukar Challenge Rules”
-Open, Novice, Women & Youth-

1. SCORED FINDS (Points or Flushes): Fifteen (15) points will be awarded for a find. Pointing dogs must establish a point and hold for a minimum of three (3) seconds. Handler must flush bird not the dog. Flushing dogs must flush the bird in order to qualify. Dog must have a scored find to receive any score.

2. RETRIEVE: Fifteen (15) points will be awarded per retrieve. Dog must deliver bird to within one large step of the handler. A clean kill must be made in order to receive full point credit on retrieve. A clean kill is defined as a shot bird; one whose flight pattern changes abruptly, legs drop or feathers are dislodged after the shot. Un shot birds retrieved to handler will receive ten (10) points. Judge will make final determination.

3. BAGGED BIRD: Ten (10) points awarded for bag bird. All Birds shot or retrieved to handler will count as a bagged bird. Handler must pick up birds not retrieved which will also count as a bagged bird.

4. TIME: There will be a maximum of Three (3) birds planted per run and each run will be for fifteen (15) minutes. The first run in each field will be a four (4) bird plant. Your run ends once three birds have been taken, time expires or when you shoot your 5th shell. If dog is on point or flushing the bird, you are allowed an extra one minute to complete the work.

5. BONUS POINTS: Two (2) bonus points will be awarded per shot not taken. Example: If shooter shot three times to harvest their three birds, they would be awarded four (4) bonus points. Shot size no larger than # 7. One (1) bonus point will be awarded for each minute remaining in run provided all three (3) birds are taken in accordance to rules 1, 2 & 3 above. Partial minutes will be rounded up to the next minute.

6. MARKED BIRD: (Wild Flush/Bump bird) is not counted as a “bird contact” and can be pursued immediately provided bird stay inbounds! Most importantly, time is not stopped if this was your last bird!

7. TIE BREAKER: For the Three Chukar Challenge the total time will be used as the tie breaker, with the second tie breaker being the first find.

8. FIELD SIZE: Small field (15 to 20 Acres), with 3 zones with 1 bird per zone.

“Pointing Doubles Division Rule"
-5 bird challenge-

1. SCORED FINDS (Points): Fifteen (15) points will be awarded for a find. Pointing dogs must establish a point and hold for a minimum of three (3) seconds. Handler must flush bird not the dog. A flush occurs when the bird moves from its resting place; takes flight, is walking or running.

2. RETRIEVE: Fifteen (15) points will be awarded per retrieve. Dog must deliver bird to within one large step of the handler. A clean kill must be made in order to receive full point credit on retrieve. A clean kill is defined as a shot bird; one whose flight pattern changes abruptly, leg(s) drop or feathers are dislodged after the shot. Un-shot birds retrieved to handler will receive ten (10) points. Judge will make final determination.

3. BAGGED BIRD: Ten (10) points awarded for bagged bird. All birds shot and retrieved to handler will count as a bagged bird. Handler must pick up birds not retrieved which will also count as a bagged bird.

4. TIME: There will be a maximum of five (5) birds planted per brace and each brace will be for a full thirty (30) minutes. The first brace will be a six (6) bird plant. You are allowed (1) extra minute to complete the work, i.e. pointer on point bird. You may shoot as many birds in the 30 minute brace as your dog finds.

5. BACKING POINTS: Five (5) bonus points will be awarded for a back/honor. Pointing Dog - dog must back upon seeing brace mates dog on point and backing dog must be held by handler or judge by collar/leash for a maximum of two (2) minutes (relocating my be used within the 2 minute time frame). If a point is stolen or interfered by a brace mate's dog the penalty is five (5) points and backing dog must then be lead away from scene by judge or handler so not to interfere again. If backing dog causes bird to flush, the dog with the find will receive the full forty (40) points for that piece of work. A second violation will result in disqualification and the dog must be removed from the field and the remaining dog will complete the brace solo.

6. TIE BREAKER: For the Pointing & Flushing Doubles Divisions the first find will be the tie breaker (reason being everyone runs their full brace time).

7. FIELD SIZE: Large field (30 to 40 Acres), with 5 zones with 1 birds per zone.

8. MARKED BIRD RULE: Marked bird is a judge’s decision. This is a bird (where by the dog had no opportunity to point bird) that may have been flushed by a judge, handler, either dog, etc., and cannot be pursued for three (3) minutes as a scoreable find. Should a dog point a marked bird in less than three (3) minutes, the gunner must shoot the bird for a non-scoreable find and/or retrieve. Unless, The dog can be led off by the collar or called off the marked bird by the handler and establish a hunt else where. This is the opportunity to teach the leave command. ***A marked bird is marked to both handlers and both should be notified immediately if possible and notified when available.

a. Examples:
i. Wild Flush, dog pointing - Scoreable (1) Why? “Dog did hold point for 3 seconds or more”.
ii. Wild Flush/Bump bird, Dog did not establish point
- Not scoreable (This is a Marked Bird)
(1) Why? “Dog did not have opportunity to point bird”.
iii. Bump bird, Dog pointing - Not scoreable (This is a Marked Bird)
(1) Why? “Dog did not hold point for 3 seconds”.
iv. Handler calls safety on a scoreable find, however, the bird lands in the field of play. This is called a “two bird area”, and is NOT a Marked Bird. Handler must get two birds in the area to get credit for one bird. Second bird is scored.
(1) Why? “Because one bird had been scored on”.
