Rocky Mountain Sporting Dog Club is a very unique sporting bird dog club. The club is dedicated to families that either have or want to have pointing dog(s) and/or flushing dog(s). The members enjoy watching and competing with their dog(s) in a competitive fun filled environment. Our focus is on friendly field trial fun hunts where members have fun competing for bragging rights. Member’s dogs are competing in one of two categories, either pointing or flushing field trials. We have a championship trial (run in an open division format) for both categories, which are held in May of every year. Those titles are for “Pointing Champion”and “Flushing Champion“. To qualify for the semi-finals your dog must have placed in the top three in either the open or doubles divisions. The top three dogs from both categories will earn a nice trophy. In addition to the two championship titles we have the “Dog of The Year” title in both categories. The dog with the highest point accumulation throughout the year, one each in pointing and flushing, will receive the “Dog of the Year” title with a very nice trophy. These awards will be presented at the annual club picnic held in July.

He was finally here. He’d had a hard time sleeping last night thinking about this moment. He’d heard someone say if you picture yourself being successful you would be. He didn’t know if it worked, but it couldn’t hurt. His 15 year old brother had won the Open Division Championship last year. This was his chance and he was just excited to be here. It was the Rocky Mountain Sporting Dog Club Youth Pointing Division Championship; he had worked hard to get here. He was used to hard work.
	He had worked hard all his 12 years to overcome speech and learning disabilities. He was used to having to fight to just barely keep up. School had been such a battle all his life. There wasn’t much that had come easily. But this, this was different. He didn’t have to read or speak well here. Buck just understood. He had real teamwork with Buck, his dad’s oldest English Pointer. In fact Buck was his best hunting partner and teacher. The dog never got impatient with him or made him feel dumb. He was a true friend.
Now, here they were ready to work as a team again. He lined Buck up, did his check, safety on, chamber empty, shells in his pocket, safety glasses and ear plugs. He thought about what dad and the club had taught him – when the dog goes on point stop and look around. Point out every spot that wasn’t safe to shoot. No shot was worth taking if it wasn’t safe. Dad could have walked with him, but he wanted to do it by himself this time, besides there would be an adult judge out there with him and they were always supportive. He was confident he could do it with Buck’s help. After one look back at the friends in the gallery he tapped Buck on the head and the dog took off. Suddenly Buck went on point, still as a statue! There had to be a bird there! Could he find it? Those chukars were tricky, but out of the corner of his eye he saw the slightest movement. There it was! He sped up, careful not to run. Club rules said absolutely no running with a gun! Suddenly in a flash of feathers the bird took flight, up came his gun, bird in his sight, bang! The bird fell and Buck took off to retrieve it to his hand.
	This is the true story of my son Nick. Nick and Buck repeated this two more times to win the Youth Championship. It was for this very type of experience that the dream of the Rocky Mountain Sporting Dog Club was born and grew into a reality. The Rocky Mountain Sporting Dog Club invests in the future of America’s hunting tradition by teaching hunters and training up a new generation to continue this country's hunting heritage. We focus on bringing the family together through field trial events for pointing and flushing dogs. We have events for everyone from the experienced hunter/field trialer to novice, women and youth. The competition is friendly, the fun real, and the friends true.
